LAYOUT EVOLUTION
Since our previous event, the project design has been further refined following community feedback and the findings of detailed environmental assessments. The design phase is now complete, and the final layout will be submitted to the Scottish Government’s Energy Consents Unit as part of the planning process. The updated design includes the removal of two turbines, increasing the distance to the nearest residential properties in Toft. This change also helps to reduce potential effects on birds, peat, watercourses, and cultural heritage assets. The final layout seeks to balance community input, environmental considerations, and project objectives.
Environmental
Neshion Energy Park has a team of expert environmental and technical specialists helping to develop the proposals. The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is being led by Ramboll UK with input from Alba Ecology, AOC Archaeology, Aviatica, TNEI and SYSTRA.
What is an Environmental Impact Assessment?
EIA is a process used to evaluate the potential environmental effects of a proposed development. The outcomes of the EIA will be documented in an EIA Report which will form part of the formal application for consent.
The EIA process includes:
- Consultation with the local authority, local community councils, statutory and non-statutory organisations, and the public to identify specific concerns and issues.
- Determining the existing environmental conditions at and around the Site by reviewing available data and conducting specialist field surveys.
- Refining the design to avoid or mitigate potentially significant environmental effects, where possible.
- Subject matter experts assessing the potential impacts of the development on the surrounding environment.
- Developing mitigation solutions to reduce potentially significant effects.
A request for an EIA Scoping Opinion from Scottish Ministers was submitted in March 2025. Scottish Ministers provided their view, with input from relevant authorities, on the environmental issues that should be considered in the EIA.
